Roger Mavity’s first career was in advertising, after which he became CEO of the Leisure and then Technology Divisions at Granada Group. Currently CEO of Conran Group, Roger also finds time to write and take photographs. His first book Life’s a Pitch was published in 2007 and went on to become a bestseller. An exhibition of his photography is being held at Quaglino’s until 30 November 2011. Between shoots we put our CDF Quiz questions to Roger and this is how he answered…
Which design object has made a difference to your life?
Eurostar (travel turned from necessary evil to joyful experience); The Wassily chair by Breuer (furniture which works as sculpture too); The Caran d’Ache clutch pencil and an A2 layout pad (how I doodle my dreams).
Which is more important education or experience?
Experience (in my view experience IS education).
How would your describe your way of looking at the world?
Endlessly angry that things can’t be better and more beautiful (though sometimes pleasantly surprised when they are).
Who would you like to design something for?
Obviously, Ferrari and Agent Provocateur.
What’s next?
More photos; a new book with Stephen Bayley; I’ll tell you when I know myself.
