The Cheltenham Design Foundation was founded by a group of professionals based in Gloucestershire with backgrounds and interests in design. Taking a three-part approach, in its first year the foundation is reaching individuals through the Academy, Master Classes and the Design Festival, which will take place over three days in April 2012.

Biographies of the Foundation Board and Festival Consultants
Marksteen Adamson has spent the last fifteen years building and creating unique brands. His work has been published worldwide on topics including corporate identity, brand strategy and product for companies such as PwC, Niceday, Rabobank, Barclays, WeAreWhatWeDo, Orange, DofE, Gadget Shop and many more. In 2005 he invented The Big Cold Turkey Foundation to support charities working with youth at risk from alcohol and drugs. Having grown up in Tanzania, Marksteen speaks five languages and has lived and worked in Denmark, Holland, and the USA. He lives in Cheltenham and is co-founder of award winning agency ASHA. Michele Beint is a garden and landscape designer with a Cheltenham-based practice called Capability. She trained at Pershore College of Horticulture under the tutelage of the award-winning gardener Chris Beardshaw and now undertakes garden design projects from urban courtyards to country estates. For the previous twenty-five years Michele ran a successful illustration agency and gallery in London, where she represented many of the country’s leading illustrators and collaborated with a wide range of designers and art directors in advertising, design and publishing. Robin Bennionis a design consultant who has witnessed the evolution of design for over 30 years since starting his career as a young graphic designer in the halcyon pre-digital era. After working in industry and advertising agencies he went on to found two design consultancies, including the international award-winning Fisher, Ling and Bennion which was acclaimed as one of the leaders in its field in the 1980s. His clients have included Coca Cola, Benson & Hedges, Volvo, Selfridges, Nestlé, Unilever, Asda, Heinz and Bell’s Whisky. Robin has written for leading industry publications, lectured on branding and run workshops on design for clients. He is committed to improving the profile of design in education and business. John Brewer has championed the use of design and creativity for the past 35 years, both in business and, more recently, in the education sector. As a creative director John has run his own design consultancies in London, specialising in branding and packaging. He formed the first multi-disciplined creative consultancy with the advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty in the 1980s winning awards from, among others, D&AD and CLIO. John now leads the Graphic Design course at the University of Gloucestershire. Back to top
Malcolm Chapman is a chartered design engineer and management consultant. He studied engineering at Nottingham University and has a Masters degree in product design. 15 years ago he co-founded OEE consulting, a leading professional services company advising major blue chip companies in industry, financial services and public sector organisations on improving their operational performance. He has delivered a number of significant business transformational programmes and is a committed advocate of embedding innovation and creativity into client organisations. Back to top
Carol Freeman began her career 25 years ago as a member of the George Davies ‘Next’ marketing team in its infancy. Since then she has gone on to work in consultancies both nationally and internationally specialising in business development and brand strategy for clients such as Unilever, Nestlé and Glaxo Smithkline. After spending twelve years in London she returned to Gloucestershire to work within the family business. Carol is the owner of Strategic Initiative Brand Consulting. Back to top
David Myerson has been developing brands through structural packaging for over 25 years. After studying at Hornsey and the Central School of Art and Design he worked for Metal Box and PI Global, the company that championed the use of structural packaging as a key part of the brand-building process. He went on to run the packaging team at Allied International Designers before setting up Tin Horse, which he sold in 1994 when he left London to form Hurricane Design in Cheltenham. During his career his clients have included Unilever, Diageo, Sara Lee, Bayer and Danone. Back to top
Nick Sargeant studied photography at the University of Derby and later undertook an MA at the University of Westminster. Starting his career in advertising photography, Nick went on to spend ten years as a freelance editorial and location photographer working for a range of publications, design groups and architectural practices. He moved into academia and lecturing, leading a number of courses from HND through to Masters courses, including the new BA in Photography at the University of Gloucestershire in Cheltenham where he is now Associate Dean, and Head of the Art and Design department. Grant Scott has spent more than twenty-five years working with professional photographers; his writing and photography has been published in both books and magazines. He started his career in graphic design and was an art director at both ELLE and Tatler magazines before becoming the Creative Director Worldwide for Getty Images. During the past decade he has worked as a professional photographer for a wide range of international clients and has been a consultant creative director for brands such as Sotheby’s and the Express Newspaper Group. The former Group Brand Editor for Archant Specialist’s photography titles, Grant has recently launched his own magazine, Hungry Eye, about professional photography and film-making. Back to top
Cameron Webb has spent eighteen years working on both sides of the creative fence as a graphic designer and in numerous roles client-side. He is currently UK Head of Brand for KPMG, a global professional services firm; setting the brand standards for the organisation across all communication channels. Working with some of the most talented agencies in the world, Cameron’s most recent projects have been a global brand refresh for KPMG in September 2010 and KPMG’s new, award-winning UK headquarters building in Canary Wharf, London. Mungo Park is the principal of Mungo Park Architects, which he founded in London in 1990, before re-locating to Gloucestershire. With his partners, he was selected for RIBA’s Forty under 40 exhibition. He has taught architecture, material technology and project management in schools of architecture and landscape throughout Britain and has contributed to the Architectural Review, The Architects’ Journal, Building Design and other periodicals. In 2010 he was the winner of the BD/Zumtobel Photographic competition. Mungo has been on the Gloucestershire County panel of design consultants and the policy advisory group for Design South West. He is a member of the Association of Consultant Architects. Back to top
